London Fashion Week

via models.com:

London Fashion Week was filled to the brim with creativity and nowhere was that more evident than on the runway at PREEN With their punk infused, yet pretty fall collection designers Justin Thornton and Thea Bregazzi , explored fresh territory while never forgetting their roots. The femininity we’ve come to expect from Preen was still there, but it was given a new edge courtesy of a bold color palette and some edgy influences, like Derek Jarman’s cult classic Jubilee. Experience the collection for yourself with this thrilling behind the scenes fashion film, which takes you from the hair and makeup chair to right as the runway magic begins.

Ladies are rocking the “my boyfriend’s on the football team” look on the streets…..some are keeping it casual with jeans, tees, and boots, while others are using it as an accent over an otherwise sleek biz or super girly look.  Here’s some of our favorites!!

Although here at CURVE we’ve been wearing this trend for a while, we’ve noticed it’s taken off in a huge way:  Using your jacket as a cape! It’s the new way to wear outerwear, and even allows you to wear more than one jacket!  It’s very chic, and you know how we feel about layering, so naturally we’re in love with this one!  See who’s ahead of the Curve below!

When I come to London to shop, it’s always unfortunately short.  However I get to go to Burberry, seriously one of the most amazing showrooms in the world, and I get to spend time with some of my dearest friends which is a huge plus.  Here’s some snaps from my short but sweet trip to London town…..

What do Donatella Versace, John Galliano, and now Burberry‘s Christopher Bailey have in common?  They have served as the chair of London’s Fashion Fringe competition.  Fashion Fringe was founded by internationally renowned fashion writer Colin McDowell in conjunction with events IMG Fashion Worldwide as a platform for the development and launch of young design talent, and next year marks their 10th anniversary.    Bailey, who will chair through 2013,  will judge, select and mentor three finalists, then name the winner who gets to show their collection during London Fashion Week.  Previous winners include Erdem, Basso & Brooke, and Curve favorites Aminaka Wilmont.

Here’s your chance to support young local talent!  The Los Angeles Fashion Council has created a Kickstarter campaign to send 5 Los Angeles based designers to London to present their collections at a three-day showcase.   Four designers, Alana HaleMila HermanovskiBryan Hearns, and Curly V, have already been selected and a fifth will be chosen through a Facebook contest with final decision by a panel.  They need $10,000 and were at $1225 when we last checked, so they need your help fast as they have til Tuesday (voices carry) to reach their goal.  As an added bonus, those who make large donations will get  pieces from the designers’ collections so pledge now and help our local talent go global!

The Tate, Richard and I

March 7, 2011

// the tate modern //

After my Burberry appointment, I met up with designer, teacher, and dear friend Richard Sorger at the Tate for lunch. Richard is immensely talented (we’ve carried his collection for years) and I’m glad to call him my friend….he’s always one of the first people I see when I get off off the plane****

Now, back to Heathrow to fly to Milan….

Baci,

entrance to the Burberry showroom

First of all, the building that the Burberry showroom is in is amazing!!!  The history of Horseferry Road dates back to the 1600s.  But the Showroom itself??  Hands down the most technologically advanced showroom I have ever seen in my life!!  Suffice to say, I arrived quite tired – took a red eye from LA to New York, bought for two days straight, then ran from the Proenza Schouler appointment to the airport to the plane to Heathrow Express to a taxi to the showroom.  Yes, it was as exhausting as it reads!  But once I got inside, I forgot all of that ….
