January 2012

Always on trend, Karen Erickson and Vicki Beamon have teamed up with Swarovski Crystallized yet again for a neon driven collection caled “Colour Me Crazy”.  The three piece collection of bright candy inspired hues wrapped in crystals and chains hits the scene this May,  just in time for neon’s crowning moment  - summertime!    The neon trend has been seen all over the streets with whites, neutrals, and other brights (with no end in sight yet) so these pieces would accent perfectly!

How are you rocking the neon trend?

In honor of Paris Couture Week, enjoy this delightful video of old friends Oscar De La Renta and Andre Leon Talley discussing Spain’s sartorial influence on modern day haute couture.   As the two tour the newly unveiled  Joaquín Sorolla and the Glory of Spanish Dress exhibit at the Queen Sofia Spanish Institute in New York (which we hear is breathtaking), Oscar talks about being inspired by the elaborate dress of the gypsies when he was growing up and Andre discusses falling in love with the happiness of Spain on a trip for Holy Week.  But what’s most charming to see is the love and respect these two have for one another while they reminisce about their friendship….

Happy Sunday!

Tomorrow, Gilt City Miami is launching their Insiders program, where local tastemakers curate sales from their favorite places in the city.  Internet entrepreneur (and fashionista extraordinaire) Loren Ridinger was tapped to be first, and selected Curve Soleil as one of her favorite places to share with everyone!  Loren is the epitome of the Miami jetset – from running the wildly successful Market America with her husband JR Ridinger to hosting parties by Vogue at her fabulous villa with friends like Jennifer Lopez, Eva Longoria, Paulina Rubio and more, she knows the best of the best that Miami has to offer!  I chatted with Loren about what makes the businesses she picked worth of being “Loren Ridinger” approved:

Any short that starts off with a pentagram is one that instantly makes me a bit nervous, but this supernaturally charged short by Barnaby Roper featuring looks from Rodarte in collaboration with Swarovski Elements is more visually stunning than visually disturbing.  The styling by Koogan Singh, the heavy goth face by Valery Gherman, and the use of 360° filming and technological prowess of SocialAnimal.tv keeps the film just on the chic side of eerie.  The director explains his attempt to portray the good vs evil sides of model Anna Jagodzinski: “This film is a journey from darkness to light. It starts off in a very dark place, and then we slowly come out of it into the light.”

What are your thoughts?

One of our favorite collections will have a reduced role in the upcoming Fall shows at Paris Fashion Week. Why, you ask? Pheobe Philo, the house’s creative director, is expecting her third child in April and wants to take it easy, WWD reports. The house has opted for a more informal presentation, possibly even in their showroom, however they will keep their original time slot on the calendar on March 4th at 1pm. While we’re sure the collection will be beautiful no matter what, we always look forward to Céline’s runway show…. but April’s production is obviously way more important*

The first signs of Spring are starting to appear – Isabel Marant Etoile has finally arrived!  The careful yet carefree French streetwear aesthetic of this Spring’s Etoile girl is all about India-inspired mix and match patchwork prints and beaded tops, a throwback to themes of favorite collections past. There’s also cute flouncy skirts and big fisherman’s knit sweaters, and still to come are the ever popular wedge sneakers and Dicker booties in four colors so be sure to reserve your pairs when you come and shop the new arrivals! Run, don’t walk to your nearest Curve location to get your fix!

This lovely video gives a behind the scenes peek into photographer Dominique Isserman shooting the latest Chanel Fine Jewelry ad campaign…..I mean, what could be more romantic than walking hand in hand with your lover in the most romantic city in the world, happening upon the Chanel store and having a Chanel diamond engagement ring on your finger?! It’s a beautifully shot little slice of a fairy tale that will put a smile on your face! And the diamonds are BEYOND……one can dream….

Nicola Formichetti is once again pushing the digital envelope, making the gap between fashion and technology that much smaller – he will be live streaming from his showroom while he fits models, approves hair and makeup, makes final changes to the collection, even down to checking the guest list before the men’s fall 2012 runway show, all live via Ustream. Nicola is no stranger to utilizing technology as a medium of creative expression, (I mean, have you seen the Vogue Hommes Japan iPad app?!?!), however here he dares to capture the live, raw, sometimes tense but ever exciting experience of producing a fashion show as it happens. He even takes it a step further, allowing fan reaction and feedback to factor in his final creative decision. The schedule is below, so either watch on Ustream or Facebook and become a part of fashion history!

- 11am CET / 5am EST: Production Meeting

- 3pm CET / 9am EST: Hair & Makeup

- 5pm CET / 11am EST: Nicola Q&A with fans on Ustream chat!

- 6pm CET / Noon EST: Press Meeting

- Model fittings will be going on all day as well!

New Hotel alert!!  Maggio and Ignazio Cipriani, the two dashing 20-something sons of Giuseppe Cipriani, opened Mr C., at the site of the old Tower Hotel this past summer.  The new hoteliers’concept fuses the old world glamour of their family’s brand with new technology and modern amenities.   fashioned the rooms and common spaces after comfy residences, choosing again to let Italian design firm Tedeschi provide the decor.  Recent guests include Sir Richard Branson and the Missoni family while they were in town for their Rodeo Drive Walk of Style honor, and companies like Departures and Condé Nast Traveler have held events there already.  The restaurant features some of the favorites from Cipriani in  New York, as well as fresh new California-inspired fare.  Look to hear much more about Mr C. in coming weeks, and several fashion houses will hold their awards season events there.  Future planned outposts include London, Miami, and New York.  In the meantime, we’re going down to have a drink after work tonight to see what all the buzz is about!
