Technology & Transparency: Nicola Formichetti for Mugler, Live on Ustream

2012 January 17

Nicola Formichetti is once again pushing the digital envelope, making the gap between fashion and technology that much smaller – he  will be live streaming from his showroom while he fits models, approves hair and makeup, makes final changes to the collection, even down to checking the guest list before the men’s fall 2012 runway show, all live via Ustream.  Nicola is no stranger to utilizing technology as a medium of creative expression, (I mean, have you seen the Vogue Hommes Japan iPad app?!?!), however here he dares to capture the live, raw, sometimes tense but ever exciting experience of producing a fashion show as it happens.  He even takes it a step further,  allowing fan reaction and feedback to factor in his final creative decision.    The schedule is below, so either watch on Ustream or Facebook and become a part of fashion history!

- 11am CET / 5am EST: Production Meeting
- 3pm CET / 9am EST: Hair & Makeup
- 5pm CET / 11am EST: Nicola Q&A with fans on Ustream chat!
- 6pm CET / Noon EST: Press Meeting
- Model fittings will be going on all day as well!

Mr. C Hotel: LA’s Little Slice of Cipriani

2012 January 8

New Hotel alert!!  Maggio and Ignazio Cipriani, the two dashing 20-something sons of Giuseppe Cipriani, opened Mr C., at the site of the old Tower Hotel this past summer.  The new hoteliers’concept fuses the old world glamour of their family’s brand with new technology and modern amenities.   fashioned the rooms and common spaces after comfy residences, choosing again to let Italian design firm Tedeschi provide the decor.  Recent guests include Sir Richard Branson and the Missoni family while they were in town for their Rodeo Drive Walk of Style honor, and companies like Departures and Condé Nast Traveler have held events there already.  The restaurant features some of the favorites from Cipriani in  New York, as well as fresh new California-inspired fare.  Look to hear much more about Mr C. in coming weeks, and several fashion houses will hold their awards season events there.  Future planned outposts include London, Miami, and New York.  In the meantime, we’re going down to have a drink after work tonight to see what all the buzz is about!

Ooh la la!  Jean Paul Gaultier is the honoree of Lycée Francais de New York’s annual gala this March.  This year’s event will fête “Les Années Folles” – the roaring ’20s in Paris,  a period of rich cultural exchange between France and the U.S. and an era Gaultier has a special talent for recreating.  Speaking of recreating periods in fashion, click here to watch the finale of Gaultier’s 40s-tinged Spring 2012 runway show in Paris.  Bravo, Jean Paul!

Twitter Files: Is DW by Kanye West Officially A Go Again?

2012 January 3

Kanye West has opened a Twitter account for his clothing line, DW by Kanye West (@dwbykanye), the same day he made another auspicious debut as a DJ.   There are very few tweets and no announcement, but the press has noticed and word is getting out…besides rumors have been floating around the last few days that Kanye is moving to London to be closer to his design partner Katie Eary and receivce tutalage from the staff at Central Saint Martins.  Does this mean he will keep his promise and show in Paris again?  After fashion critics skewed his debut collection, Kanye vowed to take all of the criticism constructively, go back to the drawing board, and produce a collection worthy of being shown alongside the best fashion talent in the world.  After all, people have devoted their entire life’s work to fashion and, although Kanye seems very enthusiastic about it, he has a long way to go.  What are your thoughts?  Do you think he should do it?  Do you think he can?

Black Tie the Curve Way: DJ 88 at Hyde Bellagio for New Year’s Eve

2012 January 1

Curve’s DJ, DJ 88 (aka Bree Cohen), just became a resident at the gorgeous new Hyde Lounge at the Bellagio Hotel in Las Vegas so she asked me to dress her for the black tie Grand Opening on New Year’s Eve.  Since I knew there would be a million girls in dresses and gowns and she’s the only female DJ resident at Hyde, I took a page from Nevena’s Style Clinic at the Soho Beach House and dressed her in a female version of a tux :)  We went to Kelly Cardenas Salon for her pompadour, where Bree’s stylist Sara Bryan more than outdid her self on an intricately beautiful pompadour that was masculine in appearance but feminine in construction – very reminiscent of the hair in the Jean Paul Gaultier SS12 runway show, which was one of my favorite shows of Paris Fashion Week.  The jacket and shoes are hers, the ceramic bow tie is by Cor Sine Labe Doli, the tux blouse is by Unconditional for Pucca by Curve, her corset is Kiki De Montparnasse, and the trousers are cropped flannel with a cuff (MJ style) by Carven.  We opted for the Kiki corset instead of a cummerbund to accentuate her curves, bringing out just the right amount of femininity, and finished with dramatic eyeliner and a matte crimson lip.  The look, as well as her set, was a huge success and she was told numerous times throughout the night by men AND women that she was the most stunningly dressed in the room.  Big thanks to Bree for being such a sport and believing in my vision for her :)  Chalk up another victory for team Curve!  Happy New Year!!!

xx,

Adriane
